Run For Your Life group contributes additional £5,578.88 to the Elmer pot

The Elmer’s Big Parade Suffolk campaign from St Elizabeth Hospice may have officially ended last month but funds raised by those involved in the popular art trail still continue to come in.

Elmer Assistant Campaign Manager, Jo Beattie, met with group leader Sean Connor and other runners yesterday to receive a cheque for £5,578.88 raised through the sale of a specially produced Elmer trail medal.

The medals were sold to those who had participated in one of three separate trail runs, which took place over the summer. The runs attracted well over 200 people who came together from multiple local running groups to support the hospice and remember fellow runner Angela Rose, who died of breast cancer in February 2019 at St Elizabeth Hospice.

The group were very involved in the campaign, not only organising these dedicated trail runs and producing the medals, but also fundraising for their own young Elmer, Edna, who was painted by Sean in tribute to his friend Angela, featuring painted nails and red lipstick and covered in people’s running memories. The description for Edna was written by Angela herself before she passed away.

Jo Beattie said: “It has been such a privilege to have Sean and the Run For Your Life group as part of Elmer’s Big Parade Suffolk. It was so sad that Angela didn’t get to meet Edna but the group have truly done her proud. What they have achieved, involving so many people from all over Ipswich and raising such an amazing amount of money has been just superb and we can’t thank them enough.”

Elmer’s Big Parade Suffolk was St Elizabeth Hospice’s second art trail, organised once again in partnership with Wild in Art, as well as new partner Andersen Press. The sculptures were out on parade from Saturday 15 September until Saturday 7 September 2019 and the auction took place on Thursday 3 October. So far the campaign has raised more than £260,000. It followed the successful ‘Pigs Gone Wild’ art trail in 2016.
