Last chance to see the Elmers!

Close up of Elphis

After their summer of fun, all the large and small Elmer sculptures that made up the Elmer’s Big Parade Suffolk art trail in Ipswich are  all safely tucked away, enjoying a well-deserved rest! The public have just one more chance to see these stunning creations before they head off to their new homes.

Elmer Packs His Trunk, the final big farewell event, takes place on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 September, at Ipswich Corn Exchange and Town Hall.

Over the weekend, visitors will be able to see all 140 sculptures all together all under one roof – the only time during the whole campaign that this has been possible!
Elmer HQ will also reopen for two days only, giving people the chance to pick up those last minute trail souvenirs and gifts.

Tickets are on sale  through the Ipswich Regent and Corn Exchange online box office: bit.ly/trunk19

Hourly slots are available on both days as follows:

  • 10am – 11am
  • 11am – 12noon
  • 12noon – 1pm
  • 2pm – 3pm
  • 3pm – 4pm (Saturday only)

This year, the event will offer a quiet session from 9am – 9.45am on both days. These sessions are specifically aimed at those with disabilities and additional support needs.

Norman Lloyd, Campaign Manager for Elmer’s Big Parade Suffolk, said:

“We can’t believe that we are just a week away from our big farewell. This event has been a long time in the planning and it will be wonderful to see all our beautiful sculptures displayed together, and to be able to share them for one last time with residents and visitors to Ipswich!

Following the farewell event, the team have just four days to transform the Grand Hall ready for the culmination of the trail, The Grand Elmer Auction, happening on Thursday 3 October.

The auction presents a fantastic opportunity to bid on a unique and beautiful work of art. The Pigs Gone Wild auction was a great success, with pigs selling for an average of £3,000 each. The Grand Elmer Auction is expected to follow in the footsteps of the pigs.

Anyone interested in attending and bidding in person can register their interest and receive the link to purchase tickets (priced £25 each) by emailing info@elmersbigparadesuffolk.co.uk

The evening will be streamed live on Facebook and all the Lots are available to view on The Saleroom, the online auction site overseen by the trail auction partners, Clarke & Simpson, where bids can also be placed in advance: bit.ly/ElmerSaleroom

Elmer’s Big Parade Suffolk is St Elizabeth Hospice’s latest art trail, organised in partnership with Wild in Art and Andersen Press. The sculptures were out on parade until Saturday 7 September 2019. It followed the successful ‘Pigs Gone Wild’ art trail in 2016, which attracted around 250,000 visitors to Ipswich and boosted the local economy by an estimated £1 million, raising £200,000 for the hospice – enough to fund one week’s care.
