100 days to go until Elmer arrives – and a new show is coming to the Regent!
It is almost as if we planned it… What good fortune that this year’s World Book Day falls on Thursday 7 March, marking exactly 100 days to go until Elmer’s Big Parade Suffolk goes live!
On 15 June, the 55 large sculptures forming St Elizabeth Hospice’s latest art trail, organised in partnership with Wild in Art and Andersen Press, will be installed in the streets and open spaces of Ipswich town centre and waterfront.
Although for the Elmer team time is now flying, we realise that for some 100 days could seem a rather long time to wait, which is why we were so pleased that our countdown coincides with World Book Day – the perfect excuse for children to go to school or nursery dressed up as their favourite colourful character!
What’s more, if your child has got dressed up to celebrate today, we have a treat in store for you as this afternoon Elmer the Patchwork Elephant himself will be paying a special visit to the Ipswich Regent theatre to help them make a special announcement about a new show coming in summer…
For one day only, on Thursday 14 August, Elmer’s very own special stage show will be coming to the Ipswich Regent! The show is based on the classic Elmer stories and has been specially adapted for stage, featuring lots of songs, celebration and laughter. Suitable for ages 1+ it is a treat that the whole family can enjoy.
If your child has dressed up for World Book Day – especially if they are sporting a mini-Elmer costume – and you can pop into the Regent after school, from 2pm till 4.30pm today, you will be able to bag half price child tickets for the show, which only go on sale today.
Produced by Selladoor (Madagascar, Fame, Avenue Q) in collaboration with children’s book publisher, Andersen Press, to celebrate Elmer’s 30th birthday, the Elmer Show was not initially scheduled to pay a visit to Ipswich during its UK tour.
However, after the intervention of the Elmer campaign team, and crucially Ipswich Borough Council, we are thrilled that families in Ipswich will now have the chance to not only join in with the trail itself, but also to see Elmer brought to life in this fun and thoughtful stage show.
Norman Lloyd, Campaign Manager for Elmer’s Big Parade Suffolk said:
“We are thrilled that the producers of the Elmer Show have tweaked their schedules to bring the show to Ipswich! The whole town is already going Elmer mad and this is the cherry on the top for us; we hope it will be a brilliant big birthday party for Elmer and the hospice – a chance to all celebrate together.”
Ipswich Borough Council Deputy Leader Bryony Rudkin said:
“We are really looking forward to what can only be described as a jumbo moment for East Anglia’s premier theatre. The Council is proud to support Elmer’s Big Parade Suffolk and St Elizabeth Hospice and we hope Suffolk people will enjoy both the trail and the special stage show.”
Tickets went on sale at 10am this morning see www.ipswichregent.com or call 01473 433100.
